2004 Vw Passat Radio Code
I have a 2002 Passat and was wondering if someone can tell me how to reset my check engine light. I need to get it inspected and it won’t pass inspection until the check engine light is not on. Last year I took it to a mechanic who could find nothing wrong with it but reset my check engine light for me and it cost $250. Is this something I can do myself? I’ve had the car since it was new and the check engine light has gone on and off periodically for the past 10 years. If someone has an answer, I sure would appreciate it. My '01 VW is a bit more forgiving when the battery is removed than most believe.

Posted on Monday, June 30, 2008 - 03:38 GMTI have a '98 Jetta that was worked on and afterwards the radio got the dreaded 'SAFE' message. Took it to 2 dealers and neither of them could figure it out. I looked on here to get some ideas and this is what I did.
You will need to have the four digit code, then hold down the MODE and SCAN buttons at the same time till 1000 comes up on the radio use the volume button to scan up and down till code is entered. Press and h old MODE and SCAN again till SAFE flashes again, if code is correct your radio will work. You have three tries to get it right then you have to wait around 30min to retry. If you don't have your code you can try to call a dealership and give them the number on the back of your deck, however they are not suppose to give out the codes over the phone. I had to call around ten dealerships till I found one in Iowa city,Iowa that gave me the code over the phone.

When I bought it the sound was perfect (with the manufacturer's stereo) and eventually it started to sound really crappy, specially w/ the bass. I thought about getting a new stereo, but they told me that to install it (supposedly a 'free installation') they would charge me 120 dlls. As they have to rewire the car because my original speakers won't work with the new stereo as they are hooked up to the amp. Does anyone know what to do?

My car, to setup a little more unique of a situation. Is brand new! I bought it off the showroom floor, & inadvertently left a small interior light on the other day (2 days ago); this did, though, cause the battery to die! Since the 'main power supply,' per the manual, was cut off completely. Yup, that's right, that stupid 4-digit code has to be entered.
